In the last four weeks, Obsession, Curry Barker’s smart horror story about a young man (Michael Johnston) who uses a novelty-store trinket called “One Wish Willow” to make his secret crush (Inde Navarrette) fall in love with him, has gone from a critics’ favorite to a monster hit. This weekend, Deadline reports that Obsession has now become Focus Features’ "highest grossing movie ever…crossing $224.7M worldwide."
Each week, Obsession has made headlines. In its second week, The Hollywood Reporter wrote, “Obsession makes history with biggest second-weekend spike in modern times outside of Christmas.” In its third week, Collider wrote, “Not since director Steven Spielberg's family sci-fi classic E.T. has a film grown in ticket sales in three consecutive weeks outside the holiday corridor.” This week, The Hollywood Reporter noted, “Obsession dropped just 7 percent in its fourth weekend…setting a record for the best fourth weekend hold ever for a horror film, as well as the top fourth weekend ever for horror.” Everyone is obsessed with seeing what happens next week.
