Focus Features announced today that Hot Spot, a propulsive, high-octane sci-fi thriller, will release in domestic theaters on August 21, 2026.
In Hot Spot, set in a near future society ruled by sentient A.I., a private eye investigates a murder case only to discover a rebel group capable of undermining the digital overlord.
Hot Spot reunites Focus and acclaimed filmmaker Agnieszka Smoczyńska, having previously partnered on The Silent Twins. The film is written by Robert Bolesto. Hot Spot is an official Polish–Greek co-production, with Madants and its partners producing on the Polish side, and Neda Film and its partners co-producing for Greece.
Looking ahead, Focus’ 2026 slate spans a variety of films for every audience, including Werwulf, the studio’s third collaboration with acclaimed director Robert Eggers, releasing on Christmas Day; Obsession from rising horror auteur Curry Barker; Georgia Oakley’s highly-anticipated fresh take on Jane Austen’s iconic, Sense and Sensibility; The Uprising from Paul Greengrass; Pressure from Anthony Maras; and Hayley Kiyoko’s feature film debut, Girls Like Girls. The slate also features two must-see documentaries; The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist from Academy Award-winning director Daniel Roher, and Charlie Tyrell and LORNE., the first-ever, behind-the-scenes look into the life of Lorne Michaels from Academy Award-winning filmmaker, Morgan Neville.
