This morning, the nominees for the BAFTAs were announced. Four Focus Features films received 20 nominations, including two for Best Director, Supporting Actress, Original Score, and Outstanding British Film. For Leading Actress and Adapted Screenplay, Focus films lead the way with three nominations in each category. The awards ceremony will be on February 22 at London’s Royal Festival Hall. We congratulate all of the nominees.
Hamnet received eleven nominations, including Best Film and Outstanding British Film (for producers Liza Marshall, Pippa Harris, Nicolas Gonda, Steven Spielberg, and Sam Mendes). Jessie Buckley was nominated for Leading Actress. Paul Mescal was nominated for Supporting Actor, and Emily Watson was nominated for Supporting Actress. Chloé Zhao received nominations for Directing and Adapted Screenplay, which she shares with Maggie O’Farrell. Max Richter was nominated for Original Score. Fiona Crombie and Alice Felton received nominations for Production Design. Malgosia Turzanska was nominated for Costume Design. And Nicole Stafford was nominated for Makeup and Hair.
Bugonia was nominated for five BAFTAs. Yorgos Lanthimos was nominated for Director. Emma Stone was nominated for Leading Actress and Jesse Plemons was nominated for Leading Actor. Will Tracy was nominated for Adapted Screenplay. And Jerskin Fendrix was nominated for Original Score.
The Ballad of Wallis Island received three BAFTA nominations. For Outstanding British Film, producers James Griffiths, Rupert Majendie, Tom Basden, and Tim Key were nominated. Carey Mulligan was nominated for Supporting Actress. Tom Basden and Tim Key were nominated for Adapted Screenplay.
For her performance in Song Sung Blue, Kate Hudson was nominated for Leading Actress.
