Here at From The Silver Screen, we create bespoke jewelry out of reclaimed film silver. When a production shoots on celluloid, no matter what film stock they use, there are microscopic silver crystals in the film strip emulsion. When the rushes are processed at a film lab, those crystals get dissolved, and we are able to harvest the metal and refine it to pure silver. We can then use this precious metal, with even more precious origins, in order to make tangible and wearable tributes to film.

This collaboration is actually the latest fruit of a creative partnership with the incredible Director of Photography Robbie Ryan, who we met in the infamous “Tutu Whiskey and Jazz Club” at Camerimage (Poland’s cinematography film festival). This encounter led to us making a bespoke collection for Robbie, as celebratory gifts for his Poor Things (2023) team, when nominated for a Best Cinematography Academy Award. We turned the “Frankenstitch” hybrid animals into silver jewellery, with Robbie donning one of the brooches himself on the red carpet.

When Bugonia entered production, Robbie approached us again, this time with a vision to honour another animal film symbol: the bee. As soon as the shoot wrapped, at the end of summer 2024, Robbie sent us one of the prop insects from the Bugonia film set. As a central symbol throughout the film, a metaphor for the collapse of modern society, we were very excited to model a pendant on this motif. We carefully 3D scanned the bee, to capture every unique and minute detail; from the texture of the hairs, to the segmented abdomen and curved stinger.

Together, we’ve turned this motif into a lasting keepsake, forged directly from the film’s own silver. And due to the finite nature of the reclaimed material, the collection is strictly limited - so get yours today and watch Bugonia, in select theaters now, everywhere October 31.
