Twitter’s Already Having Cosmic Reactions to Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City

The film’s Cannes premiere received a six-and-half-minute standing ovation

On May 23, Wes Anderson’s star-studded sci-fi comedy Asteroid City—in select theaters June 16 and in theaters everywhere June 23—premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to enthusiastic acclaim. The film’s cast—including Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jason Schwartzman, Bryan Cranston, Jeffrey Wright, Steve Carell, Hope Davis, Maya Hawke, and more—were there along with director Anderson to receive an over-six-minute standing ovation after the premiere.

Impeccably crafted and choreographed, Asteroid City takes place in a fictional American desert town circa 1955. The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

So far, early viewers are already buzzing about Asteroid City.
