Last weekend, Ronan Day-Lewis’s debut feature, Anemone, premiered at the New York Film Festival. The taut psychological drama—written by Ronan Day-Lewis and his father, the three-time Academy Award® winner, Daniel Day-Lewis—follows a middle-aged man (Sean Bean) who reconnects with his estranged brother (Day-Lewis) who lives a hermit-like existence in the woods. Over days of deep emotional reckoning, the two start the riveting emotional work of unraveling the complex, troubling secret that has kept them apart for years. After the screening, the father and son took the stage to talk about working together, and especially about Day-Lewis’ long return to the screen. For USA Today, "Anemone could very well net him his seventh nomination, thanks in part to two standout monologues that showcase the greatest hits of what Day-Lewis does best.”

At the heart of the powerful family drama is Daniel Day-Lewis who, The Telegraph writes, “is a marvel in his screen comeback.” Movieweb notes, “Anemone's stunning cinematography and gripping drama are surpassed only by Daniel Day-Lewis' embodiment of a riveting protagonist. He commands the screen with gravitas, rage and dark humor in a performance that could win him an astonishing fourth Oscar.” Praise was equally given to his co-stars—Sean Bean and Samanta Morton—and especially to the film’s director. Rolling Stone writes that the film is “very much the work of a genuine filmmaker, bursting with creativity and refining their vision in real time.” And Discussing Film calls it “one of the best debut features in recent years.”
