Zoë Chao is a talented and versatile actress with a body of work that spans theater, innovative television series and feature films. Chao is currently in production on HBOMax’s Love Life opposite Anna Kendrick and Hope Davis.
In addition to The High Note, Chao’s upcoming projects include Mike Doyle’s Almost Love opposite Patricia Clarkson and Kate Walsh; The Long Weekend opposite Finn Wittrock; and I Used to Go Here with Gillian Jacobs and Jemaine Clement. Her additional credits include Nat Faxon and Jim Rash’s Force Majeure remake Downhill opposite Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Will Ferrell, Miranda Otto and Zach Woods; Richard Linklater's adaptation of Maria Semple’s bestselling novel, Where’d You Go, Bernadette, opposite Cate Blanchett, Kristen Wiig and Billy Crudup; the Netflix series Living With Yourself opposite Paul Rudd; the Facebook Watch comedy-drama series Strangers, as well as The OA, The Comeback, The Protector and Hart of Dixie.
Chao’s theater credits include Second Stage Uptown’s Friend Art (dir. Portia Krieger), La Jolla Playhouses’ Sideways (dir. Des Macanuff), Surf Report (dir. Lisa Peterson), Our Town (dir. Tom Dugdale) and Ensemble Theatre Company’s Amadeus (dir. Jonathan Fox). Chao has also worked with directors Christopher Guest, Les Waters, Ping Chong and Chris Ashley.
Chao was nominated by the International Academy of Web Television for Best Female Performance in a Comedy for her work in web series God Particles. Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, Chao received her B.A in Art History from Brown University and her M.F.A in Acting from UC San Diego.
