Eduard Fernández (2nd from the left) as Fernando
Eduard Fernández (Fernando) was born in Barcelona and studied mime at the Institute del Teatre de Barcelona before starting out in the world of cabaret.
He spent four years with Spain’s longest-running independent theater company, Els Joglars, before debuting on the big screen in 1994 with a small role in Souvenir. It was his performance in 1999 in Zapping, however, that opened doors. In 2000, he received a Goya Award nomination for Best New Actor for Los lobos de Washington, directed by Mariano Barroso; two years later, he won Best Actor for his work in Fausto 5.0.
Since then, Fernández has become one of Spain’s most solid and prolific performers with credits including Smoking Room and In the City (for which he received his second Goya, this time as Best Supporting Actor). He continued to collect awards and accolades for his work in such films as The Method, Biutiful, Alatriste, Ficción, and The Skin I Live in, his debut with Pedro Almodóvar, as well as A Gun in Each Hand, Todas las mujeres, El Niño, Happy 140, The Night My Mother Killed My Father, Far from the Sea, and The Man with Thousand Faces, for which he was named Best Actor at the San Sebastian Film Festival. Additional credits include 1898. Los últimos de Filipinas, Perfect strangers, and Mientras dure la guerra. He has worked with a prestigious list of directors that includes Mariano Barroso, Roger Gual, Julio D. Wallovits, Cesc Gay, Montxo Armendáriz, Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Pedro Almodóvar, Álex de la Iglesia, Daniel Monzón, Alberto Rodríguez, Asghar Farhadi, and Alejandro Amenábar.
