Joseph G. Aulisi

Costume Designer

In addition to his film career, Joseph G. Aulisi has designed costumes for numerous noteworthy musicals and plays on Broadway.

His work on McG’s Charlie’s Angels and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle earned Mr. Aulisi Costume Designers Guild Award nominations; he was recently again a Costume Designers Guild Award nominee for Bob Balaban’s Bernard and Doris, which also brought him an Emmy Award nomination. He had previously been an Emmy Award nominee for Lamont Johnson’s miniseries Lincoln.

Mr. Aulisi has designed the costumes for several films starring Steve Martin; Frank Oz’ Bowfinger, Herbert Ross’ My Blue Heaven, and Shawn Levy’s The Pink Panther and Harald Zwart’s The Pink Panther 2. Similarly, he has worked with Susan Sarandon on numerous films, from Gilbert Cates’ Dragonfly (a.k.a. One Summer Love) to Frank Perry’s Compromising Positions to the recent Bernard and Doris.

Among his many other films as costume designer are Robert Benton’s Billy Bathgate, Nobody’s Fool, and Twilight; Chris Columbus’ Stepmom and Bicentennial Man; Gordon Parks’ Shaft and Shaft’s Big Score!; Michael Winner’s Death Wish; Sydney Pollack’s Three Days of the Condor; Stuart Rosenberg’s The Pope of Greenwich Village; Hector Babenco’s Ironweed; John McTiernan’s Die Hard with a Vengeance; Sidney Lumet’s Night Falls on Manhattan; Betty Thomas’ Private Parts; and Gene Saks’ Brighton Beach Memoirs, adapted by Neil Simon from his play.

Mr. Aulisi worked with the latter playwright on four productions; Jake’s Women (in San Diego) and Broadway Bound, Rumors, and God’s Favorite (all on Broadway). His other Broadway credits as costume designer include the Tony Award-winning Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, Barbara Cook: A Concert for the Theatre, Marilyn: An American Fable (directed by Kenny Ortega), and Rockabye Hamlet (directed by Gower Champion).

His work will next be seen onstage in the off-Broadway revival of Vanities, directed by Judith Ivey; and on-screen in Walt Becker’s Old Dogs, starring John Travolta, Robin Williams, and Bernie Mac.
