Cohen Media Group and Focus World Teaming Up to Release Ziad Doueiri’s THE ATTACK, in the U.S. and Canada
Posted August 27, 2012
Cohen Media Group and Focus World are teaming up to release THE ATTACK in the U.S. and Canada in 2013. Cohen Media Group will be handling theatrical release and DVD distribution and sales while Focus World will be controlling all digital media and television rights.
THE ATTACK, adapted from Yasmina Khadra’s international bestseller by the film’s director, Ziad Doueiri and with a screenplay by Ziad Doueiri and Joelle Touma, is produced by Jean Bréhat and Rachid Bouchareb. John Wells is also a producer on the film. THE ATTACK is a 3B Productions and Douris Film, Broadcast Management Worldwide and Scope Pictures co-production.
THE ATTACK marks Doueiri’s third feature, following his critically acclaimed films West Beirut and Lila Says.
Acclaimed international actor Ali Suliman (Paradise Now) stars as Amin Jaafari, an Israeli-Palestinian surgeon who has fully assimilated into Tel Aviv society. His picture-perfect life is turned upside down when he is told by the police that his wife Sihem (Reymonde Amsellem), who was killed in a suicide bombing of a restaurant, was also the person responsible for the terrorist attack. Amin immediately rejects their accusation, but his conviction is shaken when he receives a posthumous letter from Sihem confirming her role in the carnage. Shattered by the startling revelation, Amin goes in pursuit of the zealots who recruited her.
Gus Van Sant’s PROMISED LAND, Written by & Starring Matt Damon and John Krasinski, to Begin Theatrical Run December 28th, 2012
Posted August 23, 2012
Promised Land, Focus Features’ contemporary drama from two-time Academy Award-nominated director Gus Van Sant, will be released in exclusive engagements in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, December 28th, 2012, prior to an expansion in January 2013. The film’s original screenplay was written by John Krasinski and Matt Damon, based on a story by Dave Eggers. Participant Media co-financed the movie, for which Focus holds worldwide rights.
Participant’s Jeff Skoll (The Help) and Jonathan King (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) executive-produced Promised Land with Mr. Van Sant and Ron Schmidt (Won’t Back Down). Mr. Damon and Mr. Krasinski produced the movie with Chris Moore. Mr. Moore co-produced Good Will Hunting, which brought its stars and co-writers, Mr. Damon and Ben Affleck, the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Mr. Van Sant earned his first Oscar nomination for directing Good Will Hunting; his second came for directing Focus’ Milk, which won two Academy Awards. Mr. Krasinski previously starred for Focus in Away We Go, which was co-written by Mr. Eggers. Mr. Damon previously starred for Participant in Contagion.
In addition to Mr. Damon and Mr. Krasinski, the cast of Promised Land includes Rosemarie DeWitt (Rachel Getting Married), Academy Award nominee Hal Holbrook (Into the Wild), Scoot McNairy (of this October’s Killing Them Softly), Titus Welliver (The Town), and, in her fourth film for Focus, Academy Award winner Frances McDormand.
Mr. Damon plays Steve Butler, a corporate salesman who arrives in a rural town with his sales partner, Sue Thomason (Ms. McDormand). With the town having been hit hard by the economic decline of recent years, the two outsiders see the local citizens as likely to accept their company’s offer, for drilling rights to their properties, as much-needed relief. What seems like an easy job for the duo becomes complicated by the objection of a respected schoolteacher (Mr. Holbrook) with support from a grassroots campaign led by another man (Mr. Krasinski) who counters Steve both personally and professionally.
Relativity Music Group Releases Jon Brion Movie Soundtrack For ParaNorman Today!
Posted August 15, 2012
Purchase on iTunes here
The soundtrack to ParaNorman by famed composer, record producer, and singer-songwriter Jon Brion is available today, August 14th from Relativity Music Group. The new stop-motion animated comedy thriller, will be released in theaters everywhere on Friday, August 17th. The soundtrack is streaming all week on AOL Music and MSN Music and is available for purchase on iTunes here.
When a small town comes under siege by zombies, who can it call? "Norman!" From Focus Features and LAIKA, the companies behind the Academy Award-nominated animated feature Coraline, comes the comedy thriller ParaNorman. Following Coraline, ParaNorman is the second stop-motion animated feature to be made at LAIKA in 3D, unifying the two stunning art forms to tell an all-new frightfully funny, magically emotional, and hilariously spooky story.
Mr. Brion has performed with, and produced records for, artists such as Fiona Apple (When the Pawn...); Aimee Mann (Whatever; I'm with Stupid); Brad Mehldau (Largo); Rhett Miller (The Instigator); Rufus Wainwright (Rufus Wainwright); Robyn Hitchcock (A Star for Bram and Jewels for Sophia); Kanye West (Late Registration); and Evan Dando (Baby I'm Bored), as well as his own Meaningless.
He has worked as a session musician on albums with Fiona Apple (Tidal); Badly Drawn Boy (the About a Boy soundtrack, Have You Fed the Fish?); Macy Gray (On How Life Is); Elliott Smith (XO, Figure 8); Sam Phillips (Omnipop); The Crystal Method (Vegas, Tweekend); Eels (Electro Shock Blues); Grant Lee Buffalo (Jubilee); Sean Watkins (26 Miles); and Old 97's (Fight Songs). He has also conducted and arranged the orchestra for Tom Petty's album The Last DJ, as well as for the latter's Live at the Olympic concert (recorded for DVD).
Mr. Brion previously composed the music for three of Paul Thomas Anderson's features: Hard Eight (a collaboration with Michael Penn); Punch-Drunk Love; and Magnolia. The latter earned him his first Grammy Award nomination. His second came for his score for Michel Gondry's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind; the Focus Features film also earned him 2 World Soundtrack Award nominations.
Among the other movies that he has scored are Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, New York; David O. Russell's I Heart Huckabees; Peyton Reed's The Break-Up; Adam McKay's Step Brothers and The Other Guys; and Miranda July's The Future. His upcoming releases include Judd Apatow's This is 40 and Pixar's Umbrella Shorts. Mr. Brion performs monthly sold-out shows at Café Largo.
The ParaNorman production had utilized Mr. Brion's music from previous movies - including Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Magnolia - as "temp tracks" for the early assemblages of ParaNorman.
Brion was most receptive to the prospect of scoring his first animated feature. "I'd been waiting for the right one for some time now," reveals the composer.
The soundtrack reveals that it was worth the wait, for the composer and the ParaNorman moviemakers.

RED MANGO Introduces Lemonade Frozen Yogurt and Frozen Lemonade Chillers
Posted August 13, 2012
Flavor launch supports nationwide release of ParaNorman animated comedy thriller
As kids, a lemonade stand was much more than a place to sell cold drinks to neighbors. It was a hangout where friends celebrated intense heat, drank up the flavor of summer cup by cup and experienced a special kind of magic. And it’s back with a twist.
Red Mango, America’s 2011 #1 Zagat-rated frozen yogurt and smoothies chain, invites the whole family to cool off in style this summer with its new Lemonade frozen yogurt and Frozen Lemonade Chillers now available nationwide.
Labeled as “shockingly sweet and tangy,” the Lemonade frozen yogurt and Frozen Lemonade Chillers are blended with the signature all-natural and award-winning Red Mango nonfat yogurt. The chiller beverages, served in 16-ounce and 20-ounce sizes, are available in three flavors: Frozen Lemonade, Frozen Strawberry Lemonade and Frozen Pomegranate Lemonade.
“Creating these flavors, as a frozen yogurt and as a drink, made me feel like a kid again,” said Dan Kim, founder and chief concept officer at Red Mango. “The power of lemon is its range for childhood excitement as well as adult sophistication. That’s exactly what I want customers to experience when they enjoy a taste they love and remember in a new, healthful, fun and delicious way.”
And nothing says excitement like a summer blockbuster to go with it. The frozen treats debut alongside “ParaNorman” releasing nationwide in 3D from Focus Features on August 17th and being promoted in Red Mango stores for the whole family to enjoy. The movie is the new stop-motion-animated comedy thriller from LAIKA Studios and Focus, the companies behind the hit “Coraline.”
From August 6 – Sept. 17, while supplies last, all participating Red Mango locations will give customers $5 of Hollywood Movie Money for every $10 spent at Red Mango. Certain restrictions apply. See participating stores for details.
“’ParaNorman’ was the perfect movie to partner with for our Lemonade line up of frozen yogurt and chillers,” Kim said. “They both celebrate the creativity, imagination and thrills we have as kids, which we keep with us for a lifetime. The movie and our menu are fun entertainment at its finest.”
