C'mon Scare Me, asks security expert
Posted May 12, 2009
Via Boing Boing. Bruce Schneier, a security technologist and author of Beyond Fear and Secrets and Lies, thinks a lot about what’s dangerous and what will keep you safe. He also holds an annual contest asking participants to come up with a very scary movie plot. Now in its fourth year, the contest asked peope this year “to find an existing event somewhere in the industrialized world—Third World events are just too easy—and provide a conspiracy theory to explain how the terrorists were really responsible.”
Unfortunately Schneier wasn’t all that “blown away” by the entries. He writes, “I wasn't very impressed with the submissions. Nothing surprised me with its cleverness. There were scary entries and there were plausible entries, but hardly any were both at the same time.” Go to his ite to judge for yourself how scary the winner of this year’s contest––it’s a kidnap-blackmail-terrorist kind of thing.
