Green public transportation is becoming increasingly accessible thanks to companies like SmartBike. SmartBike is a point-to-point bike sharing service created in order to encourage commuters to reduce their carbon footprint. By choosing to cycle, one person alone can save 2,866 pounds of CO2 emissions per year over 6 miles. The service requires a simple registration, which grants users a card and registration code. Commuters can then use their card or code at any SmartBike docking station, and a bike will be automatically unlocked. The bike can be easily returned to any other docking station when finished. SmartBike is widely available in Europe, and started a Washington DC service in 2008. SmartBike is a great way to save money, stay in shape, and help the environment.
