Why Reality Bites?
While Stiller is now best known as an actor, he started out in movies thinking of himself as filmmaker. He directed his first feature, Reality Bites, in which he starred next to Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke. The tale of the trials and tribulations of a group of Gen-X youths felt for many like a movie that hit the note of the time perfectly. Ironically, in Greenberg, Stiller's eponymous character berates the next generation, kids about the same age as the characters in his first film.
