Slide 7: The Christmas That Almost Wasn't (1966)
We often forget that above all else the North Pole is a piece of real estate. Rossano Brazzi’s Italian-produced The Christmas That Almost Wasn’t reframes the holiday’s commercial dimension as simple property values. It turns out Santa only rents the North Pole from the infamous skinflint Phineas T. Prune (played by Brazzi), and, to make matters worse, he doesn’t have the money to pay. If Saint Nick can’t raise his rent, Christmas and all its contents will be collected for back rent.
