Holidays Films to Make Your Christmas Scary

If you're feeling all Scrooge this holiday season, then Nick Dawson's selection of movies that take a darker look at Christmas is perfect for you.

Slide 7: Elves (1989)

Possibly the "least accomplished" of the movies to take a sinister perspective on the holidays, Elves deserves mentioning simply because of how spectacularly bizarre it is. For a start, despite the title the movie features only a single elf. This elf, however, has been created by Nazi genetic engineering and is supposed to mate with Kirsten (Julie Austin), the movie's hapless heroine, on Christmas Eve in order to create a legion of elves which will start the Fourth Reich, a prediction supposedly laid out in the New Testament's Book of Revelation. Helping Kirsten avoid this horrible fate is ex-Grizzly Adams star Dan Haggerty, who plays an alcoholic department store Santa. (Finally, a Santa who's on the side of the good guys!) Oh, and for some reason, we also discover that Kirsten's grandfather is also her father. Wholesome, this is not.
