Babies may be universal, but the way that society and culture has viewed the little darlings has changed through history.
Slide 6: F is for Faith
Like Dobson, Rev. Ronald Williams of the Believers Baptist Church in Winona Lake, Ind., believes “correction with the rod should and must start very early.” He explains: “A rod is an instrument strong enough to be used in a session of correction so that it will not be broken … but it is not so constructed as to break bones or tear flesh! ... Your hand cannot do an effective job of correcting since you will inflict about as much pain on your hand as you will on the child's buttock.” Twyla Bullock, of Eufaula, Okla., helps market “The Rod,” a 22-inch, $5 white nylon instrument with a cushioned vinyl grip that was designed by her husband. The Rod, named after the “rod of correction” of Proverbs (22:15), is, says Bullock, “a faith-based way to discipline children ... and train them as Christians.”
