Slide 3: Conquest of the North Pole (1912)
While the film pioneer Georges Méliès traveled into outer space with his 1902 classic A Trip to the Moon, and then five years later explored the sea’s depth with his adaptation of Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, it wasn’t till the end of his career that he made it to the North Pole. His 1912 Conquest of the Pole followed Professor Mabouloff’s trek North to find the icy creature “Giant of the Snow.”
