Nine years before making the family classic A Christmas Story, director Bob Clark offered a somewhat darker take on the holidays. An early slasher movie prototype, this low budget Canadian movie was set in a nice, cozy sorority house and pitted a gaggle of cute young female students, all hanging out there over the winter holidays, against a psychotic serial killer hellbent on picking them off one by one. The film was initially released with the title Silent Night, Evil Night, as the distributors were concerned Black Christmas might be misconstrued as a blaxsploitation flick. However the film reverted to its original title shortly after it was released. Now a cult classic, Clark's movie was remade in 2006 by Bob Weinstein's Dimension Films.
