While this adaptation of the first part of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials takes place in a parallel universe, they still have a North Pole. But there, rather than being a winter wonderland, the North Pole harbors a factory for injuring children, is filled with armies of armed bears, and just might contain the path that leads from one universe to the other.
