Kodi Smit-McPhee will next be seen starring as Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet, directed by Carlo Carlei and adapted by Academy Award winner Julian Fellowes from the William Shakespeare play. The ensemble also includes Douglas Booth, Hailee Steinfeld, Ed Westwick, and Paul Giamatti.
His upcoming films also include Ari Folman’s The Congress, with Robin Wright, Paul Giamatti, and Harvey Keitel; and Tony Krawitz’s Dead Europe, alongside Ewen Leslie and Marton Csokas.
Mr. Smit-McPhee received Critics’ Choice Movie Award nominations for Best Young Actor for his performances in Let Me In, starring opposite Chloë Grace Moretz for writer/director Matt Reeves; and The Road, starring opposite Viggo Mortensen for director John Hillcoat. The latter portrayal also earned him an Australian Film Institute (AFI) Award nomination.
The Melbourne, Australia native previously received an AFI Award nomination for his performance in Matching Jack, starring opposite Jacinda Barrett and James Nesbitt for director Nadia Tass; and won the AFI Award for Young Actor, for his work in Romulus, My Father, starring opposite Eric Bana and Franka Potente for director Richard Roxburgh. The latter movie also earned him a Special Achievement Award from the Film Critics Circle of Australia.
