In a Salon.com article entitled “Michael Fassbender, future superstar”, Andrew O’Hehir provides a lovely profile of Michael Fassbender, the Rochester in Cary Fukunaga’s new Jane Eyre. O’Hehir and Fassbender have a lively talk about film, Jane Eyre, and Orson Welles. At one point, Fassbender beautifully articulates what at the heart of his Rochester: “That's what I was trying to get at. That's what I wanted with him, he's got a shadow on him all the time, this guilty secret, this dirty secret. Everything springs from that secret, from what happened to him in Jamaica. His whole life has been formed from that.” If you don’t know what happened in Jamica, you better see the film.
