Broken Social Scene
Broken Social Scene is a band based in Toronto. The group previously collaborated with Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck on the music for Half Nelson.
Co-founded by Brendan Canning and Kevin Drew, Broken Social Scene (BSS) issued its first album, “Feel Good Lost,” in 2001. The group’s next album, “You Forgot It In People,” was an international breakthrough. A self-titled album followed, and they recently released their latest album, “Forgiveness Rock Record.” The latter showcases vocalist Lisa Lobsinger on the track “All to All” and showcases the band’s ever-expanding range of musical styles, from disco-pop to group-march to bachelor-pad swing to rock hoedown to triple-guitar jams.
Under the Broken Social Scene Presents aegis, Mr. Canning has issued the solo album “Something For All Of Us” and Mr. Drew has issued the solo album “Spirit If…”
Other movies that the band has scored include Bruce McDonald’s The Tracey Fragments, starring Ellen Page, and telefilm The Love Crimes of Gillian Guess; Marc Evans’ Snow Cake, starring Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver; and several short films. For It’s Kind of A Funny Story, BSS has contributed not only selections previously heard on their albums but also new music.
