With Focus Features celebrating its tenth-year anniversary, we asked some of our music supervisors for their final playlists.
In Lorene Scafaria’s comedy SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD, as Dodge (Steve Carell) and Penny (Keira Knightley) take off on their final road trip, Penny holds on to a few of her favorite albums to keep her company to the end. For her, and for many of us, music is memory. For her, those albums aren’t just her favorite songs, but reminders of the important moments in her life. When various people, including the cast and director, put together their own PlaylistForTheEnd, many were no doubt revisiting the highlights of their own lives.
When a talented music supervisor pulls together a soundtrack for a film, s/he is creating the memory of a film, as well as the songs that will provoke our memory of the film for years to come. With Focus Features celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, we reached out to music supervisors who have worked on some of our favorite Focus films and asked them for their personal playlists for the end, those songs they would want to hear if there were no tomorrow.
