The musical starring William Daniels as John Adams. It may not be very accurate historically, but it is a lot of fun while still showing the weightiness of the issue before the Continental Congress.
The Lord of the Rings
(The entire set, since it is really one story). Generally true to Tolkien's writing, the imagery takes a bit of getting used to, but overall works very well. Not for the faint-hearted, however, as it takes some doing to keep the story straight!!
Dances with Wolves
One of Kevin Costner's best, I think. The cinematography is astounding, and the quest for identity and integrity makes for an amazing story.
The Santa Clause
You figured there had to be at least ONE Santa movie, right? This movie is hilarious, and the redemptive process for Scott Calvin can be related in all sorts of situations.

With the world's emphasis on fame an fortune and STUFF, the message that anyone is rich who has real friends should be shouted from the rooftops. After many, many viewings, I still get choked up!!
Santa John Sloper has been "a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet..."..... well, not really, but he has had a lot of job titles. Pastor, camp manager, accountant, help desk technician... just to mention a few. He has been "doing" Santa Claus for about 7 years, after several people had remarked on the resemblance.
