LA Film Shoots Down
April 14, 2009
Hollywood isn’t what it used to be.
While movies are not taking the hit that the rest of the economy is, the LA film industry is a whole different story. The Guardian reports today that “according to a new report, film location work in Los Angeles hit an all-time low during the first three months of this year as a result of the long-threatened actors' strike and the trend for shooting feature films elsewhere.
Part of the problem is that so many states have passed major film production initiatives, pulling movies from being made in Southern California. But the decline has many in LA a bit worried. According to the Guardian, “This year, only five major movies, defined as those with a budget of $75m or more, are being produced in Los Angeles, compared with 21 films last year and 71 in 1996.”
